I sent my Shriner Skull over to the fine folks at Mister Retro. They gave me some love and put it up on their sample page. Stoked! Thanks guys! Check it out...Shriner Skull on Mister Retro

Hey? Remember me?

Howdy,

I've been away from here since July it looks like. I've said it before, and I'll probably say it a jillion more times...sometimes life gets in the way of a good time. Not that life has been bad, oh no on the contrary...quite nice. Life is good, just semi-hectic and busy most of the time.

Anywho...Santa brought me some early gifts. A few sets of super cool Photoshop filters from the fine folks at Mister Retro. The suite (is that what you call it?) I played with today is called Permanent Press 2 these filters essentially mimics old school (real) printing techniques and styles. My description certainly doesn't do it the justice it deserves.

Here is photo of a plastic halloween skull wearing a fez I took, then manipulated in Photoshop and did final tweaking with Permanent Press 2. I dig it.

That's all for now...maybe more soon? Who knows?

Struggling Shriners...

Ok...so the Shriners aren't struggling, I'm struggling with them. Why? Dunno. Trust me if I could answer the "Why don't you do it?" question I'd either be fantabulously wealthy, or at least a little more mentally healthy...but I digress...

So we/I started here...rough "blue line" sketch...

Made it to here...slightly tighter "red line"...

Tightening more and "forming" (fyi...if you put things in "quotations" it gives the illusion you know what you're talking about, or not)

The (digital) inking has begun...

© Mike Moore Studios 2015

This thing, though amusing to me, is going SO slow...
Yet it continues...

Black lines need to be finished, hopefully sooner than later...then the "painting" begins. Bear with me, it'll happen.

Dusting off the cobwebs...

Alas Dear Reader(s), as you are likely well aware, I have been lax in the updates of this depository of my Visual Mishaps, and Random Ramblings. Sometimes life just happens.

Anyhoo...took a few quick snaps today with the ol' iPhone whilst out running errands. Masterworks? Not hardly. Amusing enough to share though I reckon.

Behold...

Sunday morning photos...

So the decision was made to get up and go try to get some photos this morning.

Honestly, the main impulse for doing this was because I had a big itch to make some sorta new images. More honestly, every time I sat down to try to draw, my left hand put on a helmet, got on the short bus, and took off for parts unknown.

Woke up about 6:15. Clothes and gear were laid out ready to go. But wait...thunder? Shit. It was barely sprinkling, I knew I'd be pissed if I didn't go. So I did. I was out for less than an hour. The rain just kept growing. 2 iPhone shots, thru Hipstamatic using the Ruddy "lens"and Love 81 "film" from their Jamaica Hipstapak, and 2 DSLR shots, tweaked in Lightroom and Alien Skin Exposure 7.

Took a total of 32 shots. 4 keepers, and maybe a couple "maybes" on the vine.

I'm happy with that.

Here they are...

There's something about...

First of all, let me preface this post by saying I've been trying EXTREMELY hard to not post anything negative or mean. I don't necessarily feel like I'm ever either (A wry observationist maybe? Cynical at worst)...but I do feel like there's enough negativity in the world, that I don't need to add to it.

That being said...

There's something about your average middle class American wearing a Bluetooth smartphone headset, looking like an air traffic controller, and being completely serious about it...that cracks me the hell up. Dude, or ma'am...I'm pretty sure you're not actually trying to thwart the imminent collision of inbound jumbo jets into LAX. I'd even go so far as to say your recap of Skipper's t-ball game to gramma is not a matter of National Security.

So in short...lighten the hell up.

Yes, you're wearing a dork crown.

No, you're really not that important.

Ok, now I'll lighten up...maybe you're just trying to be safe while driving, hands on the wheel, eyes on the road...that sorta thing. Cool. Thank you.

But seriously...your air of regality is off-putting at best, and trust me...I'm not itching to bond with the masses either, but c'mon, there's no need to wear the "Hey! I'm an asshole" banner. Blend in...join the flock...drink the kool-aid....let's all hold hands and sing "Kumbaya"..it'll be awesome, I'll make S'mores.

Ok...rant over. Now back to your regularly scheduled bits and pieces...

Finished...I think...

The 8bombed "self promotion" piece is done. I think. I kinda wanna see something more happening with the type work, but it also seems that the white type makes everything else "pop" a little more. I'll live with it a while and see what works.

Time to find something else to rattle the brain pan with.

8bomb blacks "done"...

Thursday is doodle day. Got to spend some time on Mr. 8bomb. Got the blacks "done". I'm throwing in the ""'s because there's always tinkering to be done. Pretty happy with the outcome thus far. Learned a buncha new tricks in MS5 that I'm pretty stoked on as well.

This thing has a long way to go before it's done done, but I'm happy I got the character looking/feeling the way I wanted it.

8bombed...

Started doodling on a "new" character to be used as possibly some sort of self promotion piece in the future. Kinda simple, kinda fun. So far everything's been done in MangaStudio 5, but I sense trips to Illustrator and Photoshop on the horizon.

Enough nerditry...

Here's the first rough sketch...

© Mike Moore Studios 2015

Started a little "inking", 'cause I'm all impatient like that. Need to tighten up hands, and feet. I also think the back leg needs to get tweaked a bit. Learned how to use ruler guides in MS5...thus the nice clean circle shapes.

Elvis-ish...Done.

Alrighty. I'm done with ol' Mr. E. I could do some sorta background, or even some sorta ground I reckon...but I think I'm gonna stick a fork in it and call it done. Time to move on to the next bit of whatever. The point was to learn more about Manga Studio 5, and I did...I also had fun and I think pushed my skill levels a little.

Elvis-ish...part 3

The main "inking" is done (probably fiddle with it some more...but for the most part, done). The flatting (laying down flat basic areas of color) has begun. I've got nothing to say here that needs parentheses...so I won't put any.

I've got zero idea what to do with this when it's done. I reckon it'll just go into the portfolio to show off later.

Anyway...here's where it is...

Elvis-ish...

Thursday...

Sort of a day off...

Too cold to hit the trails on the bike (maybe not too cold for the mas macho...but I reckon I ain't that)...

So...stay inside, do some laundry, and DRAW!

Was feeling The King today...

Poached photos...

Was gonna go to a car show and take pix yesterday. Went to the venue, wasn't down with paying to get in (I'm a cheap bastard when it comes to questionable "fun"). Anyway, I knew of something on some private property that I'd been wanting to sneak in and shoot...so I did. Here's a couple of the images...

Playing with my "logo"...

I always, somewhere in the deep, dark, recesses of my mind planned on using my "logo" as some sort of framing device. Well I finally got around to doing some doodling on that idea...

Hog Wild, work in progress...

Two good things happened today. Made some "art" and I got off my ass and got my ass back on my bike. The "art" was painless and fun. The bike bit was painful and fun.

No pics from the bike ride, but thanks to Christopher Simmons from Lucky in Love Tattoo for taking the ride with me. We sounded like an asthmatic convention...lots of wind sucking. Good times.

Here's the "art" that got made today. More to go, but enough to show...

Beelzebozo...DONE!

My first digital foray into the evil clown genre is done. Trust me, as usual, I see a whole bunch I'd like to see different...but I'm working hard on not overworking. Perfection is unachievable, don't sweat the small stuff...etc.

See ya chief...

My father in law left this world yesterday. We butted heads a few times, and didn't always agree on everything, but I admired his drive and gusto for life. He also let me marry his daughter, which is about the greatest gift anyone's ever given me.

See ya chief!

Beelzebozo...

The Holidaze are behind us, thus granting me a little time to move some pixels about and attempt to come up with something either visually pleasing or amusing, or a random mix there-of.

I, being me, was tossing names and ideas around in my head to try and conjure the next doodle. As some point Beelzebub popped in...always a good place to riff from. I scribbled about, trying to bring an idea to fruition. I roughly doodled an evil clown. Clown. Bozo. Beelzebozo.

Found a good source photo of Bozo....
