Twin Tiki...Now all colored and stuff!

Spent some time coloring in the lines yesterday...and it was fun!

A previous post showed the "evolution" of this Twin Tiki piece. It was originally all analog and old fashioned hand on paper kinda stuff...but for color, out came the dig-bits.

Not totally in love with it, still a work in progress, but I learned some stuff and had fun doing all good.

Here ya go...

So what's next? Who knows. Got some new brush updates for Clip Studio Paint from Frenden having fun playing around with them. If you use this program, you owe it to yourself to get Frenden's brushes!

Okey Dokey...

I'm not supposed to show you...but...

I've done a little work with the fine folks at Gnarly Magazine, the Kustom Kulture Magazine. I want to show it off...but I can't. The next issue comes out at the first of you gotta wait til then. I'm stoked to be in the mag, and am looking forward to, hopefully, a long and weird (in the best sort of way) relationship with them.

Ahh screw it...

Here's a peek...

Twin tiki fun...

Thought I'd dust off the non-digital tools and have some fun.

Was feeling a little tiki-ish, found a cool model...

A tiki salt shaker.

That became this...

It'll likely get scanned into the ol' computron to have coloring goodness(?) added to it. Felt really good to touch pencil and pen to actual paper. I really dig the digital stuff...but hands on contact? Man oh man, that's the proverbial shizz right there.

Old skaters never die...

Though I'm "retired", I've been in and around skateboarding since 1975. There are guys older than me still kicking major amounts of ass on that useless wooden toy. It's a young man's (or girl's...person's?) game though, no matter how much the grey hair rips...or more to the point blabbers on about "back in the day"

I love you skateboarding! Thanks for the memories.

Racism is dumb...

I never fail to be mystified at willful ignorance. Trust me when I say I'll never be mistaken for a Rocket Surgeon, and those that live in glass houses should avoid operating heavy machinery, but still...

Not really chasing a theme but...

This is my second depression oriented strip (panel? comic? I don't even know what to call it). I'm not chasing a theme, or mired in any sort of funk...I just thought both were funny. Dang...if you feel the need to explain yourself (or is it, "If I feel the need to explain myself"?), then maybe it's not funny. Dang #2, now I'm second guessing. Meh...

Here's the strip...panel...comic...whatever it is. Funk free and only mildly second guessed.

Chubby Carrot Munchers

Before anyone says anything about carbs or sugars from plants...yeah, I get it...there's sugar and carbs in plants. This is a comic strip, not a scientific treatise...please don't take it as such. The best I'm hoping for is a laugh.

Mosquito Depression...

I reckon the goodies will keep coming as long as that mushy bit between my ears keeps doing it's job. The goal is "daily", but me and goals have a bit of a checkered history. ya go...

The Dawn of Tooleyville...

I've been working on a comic strip.

It's a single panel, black and white thing...with an attempt at humor.

It's called Tooleyville. The name refers to a far off place (somewhat akin to Bumf@ck, Egypt). I give the lovely Mrs. MMS full credit for it. I'd never heard Tooleyville before her...thanks babe!'s the first 3.

Hope the 3 or 4 of you reading this dig it.

I took some pitchers*...

Mrs. MMS, and myself took a weekend. Other things happened, but since this blog thing is supposed to be about my "art"'s some pitchers* I took...

Love from Concrete Wave Magazine...

Way back in the late 90's, in the early days of the Interwebs, I did a logo for the Skate Geezer homepage.

I became friends with it's founder, Michael Brooke. Brooke is now the publisher and editor of Concrete Wave Magazine...I was part of it's inception and early years too.

Any how Michael just gave me a little love for old time's sake I reckon.

It's must be Spring?

I'm just gonna jump right into "old man talking about the weather" mode...

It's February. Stuff is blooming like crazy. It's basically Spring. This does not bode well for a comfortable Summer. It's gonna be HOT! This is Texas, and it's always hot in the Summer...but I fear this will be of the brain melting variety.

Ok. Enough of that. Next thing you know I'll be pulling my pants up too high, and shopping for rain gauges.

Because of the Spring-like weather, and stuff blooming, there's nature photos to be had. Thanks to the keen eye of Mrs. MMS, I was able to get some.

Cause I can't leave well enough alone...

RE: My recent "Hell On Wheels" piece.

I was happy with the way the piece originally turned out. That's a big step for me. I never am. And guess what? I still wasn't.

As this is a completely digital piece, it's easy enough to futz around with after the fact and try some things you didn't do originally. So I did. Fired up the ol' mystic Photoshop machine and tried some different bits of black (probably more like light gray...but black sounds cooler right?) magic. Lots of "mehs", but finally settled on what you see below. The effect was achieved using the Spot Wash Dirt filter from the fine folks at Mister Retro.

Dig it...

Over all I think it adds a bit more depth, and helps the colors pop. Compare it to the one below and let me know what you think.

Well that's it for now folks.

Hell On Wheels...

First finished piece of 2017!

Been working on this one for a bit. Liked the drawing, but was undecided on backgrounds, type or no type, etc. The eldest of the MMS progeny acted as a bit of an art director/idea was cool to get his input. We're both into bikes, him now so more than me (I'm old...but back on), so it seemed like a natural.
